my weekend no longer interesting...

Last year, when my boys still in pre-kindy, they will have their homework on week day, twice a week. After i finish work, reach home, quickly had my dinner, then i have to coach them with the homework.

This year, they are in their kindy one, first week at school, they already bring back homework to do for the weekend. 8 pages of 3-10, it's still consider ok, as they wrote that in their pre-kindy, maybe this is just revision. Slowly, second week, i can see they also got some chinese homework, then they have to memories four lines of sentences, then some write one alphabet on one page, some kind of revision for them again? Come third week, i can see got some colouring to do, chinese homework, alphabet to write, sentences to memories.

Last week, i cannot believe i just sit there to coach them homework for nearly 2 hours +, do revision on the Bahasa, writting chinese, and i want them to learn recognise the chinese word and not by looking at the picture, and make sure they pronounce it correctly. I nearly choke myself when i point at the "cat" word and they read it as "meow", milk as "nen nen". Some words they pronounce in funny accent, that really make me laugh.

Back to english, memories sentences, so far they are ok, but, last week i got a shock when i see this word, "myrrh". OMG! I thought i see some alien word, but it is the word. I don't know how to read and how to get my boys to read and memories. Quickly i message my friend, Vivian, how to pronounce it. She ask me, do i get the correct word, i said YES! hahahhahah. End up i think of this terror english tuition teacher, Cleffairy, i sent her an sms and ask her how to pronounce, she helped me! So three of us start learn how to pronounce it, and later on i google and found out what is the meaning. :( Now mummy also learn the new words, see how not to stress over the weekend?

see the word i circle, i don't know how to read!! hahahahha

Beside than school homework, i have to guide them with music homework and piano practice. There goes my lovely weekend. That also said why i slow down on my bento making on weekend.

every week have to memories one page of this...

Fearles colouring...neat...

Cruz's colouring, messy.

homework need to do.....

Sometimes i reall feel sad for the children, they have litterally lost their golden childhood to the school system.

So as parent, we must try out best to give them happiness outside school.

Sometimes, let them be naughty a bit, let them be children, let them be mischievous, that's part of growing up, isn't it?

hey you have a great weekend ya

You don't know your Bible kah? Wah...they teach the Three Kings/Wise Men in kindy? Gosh...imagine the poor kids learning to spell frankincense.

Btw, you should not compare the two kids - each may have his talent in different fields...and different people may learn at a different pace (something which even the teachers in schools do not seem to realise!!!). Sometimes, we pass remarks...and we do not see the effects on the party concerned and sometimes, they surface many many years later. My brother's one year older than me and we're VERY different.

wei, which kindy u send ur boys to la? i see also i scared.

rye li's one not like this wor (or maybe i'm not aware about it yet). she has homework but not as heavy as your boys. hers would be writing (also for chinese), colouring and reading. reading so far is for bahasa, the sukukata ones. i guess i'm lucky that her daycare makes sure she finishes her homework there b4 she comes home.

i really feel for your boys and you as well as i only had that one time teaching rye li to read her sukukata and that drove me up the wall! lol!

*FAINT* This is what they are teaching in kindy? Oh... my.... God!!! Poor children! Why are they teaching Bible in school, Annie? Is this a Christian based kindy? Seriously, when you sms-ed me, I was really surprised to know that it was your son's homework.

@Cikgu... I wonder, what kindy is that. =( I taught Creative Writing and English as well, but even my students don't get to learn tough words such as this one. LOL... and yea... I can't imagine the kids learning to write frankincense. I can imagine them writing down Frankenstein, tho. LOL

OMG ! for the life of me, I have not come across such word. *pengsan-ed* over and over again. It's like learning Shakespearean at kindy. Lucky my girl dun go to the same kindy as yr boys, otherwise.. I give up,,, I really dunno what to do.. AND I cannot imagine my weekend bogged down with homework .. LOL !!

I learned Shakespearean in kindy when I was Cruz and Fearles age... but there's children adaptation, so it was not hard. They make it very fun, in fact, but this school seems to be quite exam oriented...was there any plays or show and tell, Annie?

@mommy to chumsy....myrrh is some sort of herb, usually used to make ointment or incense. Myrrh ointments or incense are usually used in funeral or cremation ceremony. Basically, it is used for religious purpose, and also... as wine additives.

mNhL: ya, now kids study, they stress , we mummy also stress. LOL

mommy to chumsy: agree with you, now music lesson also getting tougher. Ashley learn earlier than my boys, hers one is more tough if i find my boys stage now is tough. :(

eugene: Kids nowadays is study study study and tuition and tuition and tuition. I think during my school day still not that bad. Poor kids, that's why sometime i just let them go loose and play hard.
Hey, you have a good weekend too ya.

smallkucing: most kindy are having a lot homework now, especially chinese kindy.

laundryamah: maybe Kieran that time still young? K1 is different? But my sons since last year, only at pre-kindy already got homework.

STP: HAHAHHAHAHHAHAH..now you knock my head hard!!! Yes! That is BIBLE verses, i read chinese bible that is why English one didn't ring a bell. After i google that word "myrrh" i only realise it could be Bible verses and not some sentences from the book!

ryeli: My boys's kindy is nearby my house one. Is a christian kindy, so maybe that is a bit different from others. They get kids to read Bible. This is one of the good point also. hahhaha...now you know teaching two in one time is not an easy job lei, really need a lot a lot patience.

Cleffairy: Yes yes, this is a christian based kindy, that's why they read bible too. I didn't realize that, every week the verses that they read and memorise is from Bible, till i google that word later only i know it could be from the bible. They let the kids learn in an easy way, read, and do finger playing and memories it. Lucky no need to learn spelling and write it out, if no i will "pengsan" long long time ago. Now they learn new words and so do me too. Like i told STP i use to read chinese bible, so i didn't know english version is "harder". :(
Thanks for explain "myrrh" to mommy to chumsy. :) Yes, that is the exact meaning. Eh! Thanks again for your help.

Not only can I not pronounce that word, I don't even know what it means! LOL.

My weekends are like that, teach English spelling, then reading Mei Mei the story book that she brought back from school (compulsory to read), then Chinese spelling and last of all BM spelling. Sigh. What ME time?
