A day @ Sibu Central Market

*yes, still sibu trip post, i also don't know when i can finish it lei?*

One thing i like to do when i am going back is to "shop" at the market, there is a lot things to see, from the food to the vege, tidbits, fish, chicken, meat and etc. I remember when i am young, i like to follow my grandmother to the market, i still remember i see how people kill the bats and sell it, it looks funny but pity also. That time the market really is those "wet market" and big. I forgot when they upgrade the market to a better one and more clean.

This time i brought my boys to tour at the Sibu Central Market. Over here in KL, sometime i bring them to the morning market also but is those small one. They find it so interesting, they see fishes, colorful and big to small fishes, any kind of fish, some are still live and swim in the water, they see "live" chicken, crabs, shell. When they saw the big fish was swimming in the big pail, they got too excited, like those "kampung boy" never see fish before, screaming and laugh excited, on the other hand, Cruz told my mum "smelly smelly". :S

picture taken from the 3rd floor, this session is selling vege and some herbs and some dry items. This is only part of it, there is other session like selling dried seafood items like anchovies, dried prawns & etc. Then there will be meat session and also fish session.

this is how they sell the "live" chicken!! Interesting?? My sons find it interesting, they keep asking my mum to buy the chicken home! hahahhahahah . When i see this, i like "wah" so long i never come accross people selling chicken like this, i remember when i follow my grandmother to market to buy chicken they will tie the chicken like this and i will hold the string!

this is the fish session...so so many types of fishes!!

Crabs, this is smaller crabs. My boys excited so see so many crabs around, from small, medium to big!

this is one of the shell , i love this. So so long i never had this, my mum bought some and cook for me, i don't think can find it here in KL.

mNhL: i think kids just love to follow mummy to go market, a lot things to see. Live chicken may look "cute", i wonder if my boys see how people slaughter the chicken, how will they react.

Bryan and Brandon's mummy: heheheh..this is only part of it lei, still got some "swimming" one on the floor, i didn't take the picture. Interesting place to visit - the market.

prince and princess mum: yes, a lot things to see and buy.

michelle@mybabybay: i think they tie the chicken like this easier for those who buy the chicken and bring home and slaughter themself. If i remember, last time they put in the cage after you buy the chicken, they will tie like this and you hold it and bring back home.

STP: Serious? I didn't know that is the major tourist attraction! hahahha, ya hor, we should feel proud, we got a clean, neat and big central market in Sibu!

MeRy: Yes, i am from Sibu. Your hub from Sibu and yourself lei? Maybe for those stay in Sibu, nothing special about Central Market but to us go back once in a while sure find it interesting and a lot things to see.

Borneo Falcon: you sure know where to find cheap beer!!

coffeesncookies: hahahahha, you ar, the price so small you also can see. Ya wor, after you mention, i also wondering, how if my boys see the "live slaughtering" how would they react. I saw my grandma slaughter chicken before, so i am ok, but don't ask me slaughter, i don't know how!! HAHAHAHA

CH Voon: Since you're from Kuching, can find time to go to Sibu for a short trip, can stay at STP's house or stay in hotel (price ok, not expensive) then ask STP to bring you for makan makan. Yup, the shell is nice, taste sweet.

smallkucing: Oh,i never been to Terengganu.

cleff: chicken look cute hor? hahahahha . That's why my sons thought can buy the chicken back and as a pet. They have not see the slaughter part.

iamthewitch: Sibu also a small town ma. This is the central market look huge, there are some small morning wet market at some taman also, the one is small market, not as much things to see as the central market.

Agnes: Huh? Ketupat? hahahahhahaha!!

Annie Q said...

Pete: i know you are a person that like to "shop" at market, because you're a GOOD COOK, there is where you can get your ingredient from!! Go Sibu, can find STP, he can be a very good tour guide and bring you for good food. :) See he already give offer, free stay, free taxi, free food!! Quick go and grab the offer!

Sasha: hahahahha, i think now not many people know how to slaught the chicken, not like those old days. At least i more brave than you, i still dare to hold the string. hahahahha Kids sure find it interesting, live chicken lei!

mommy ling: hahahah, ya ya..chicken bungkus!

An interesting post! I never knew they sold live chickens like that. Feel like buying them juz for fun :P

This market looks so big and very clean too, lots of things to see...look at the fishes...and I first time see the live chicken sold like that..interesting!

mommy to chumsy said...

hahhhahhaha...i've never seen ppl selling chickens like that. Is this cleaner than putting them inside a crowded cage? I guess they don't slaughter the chicken at this place?

Lovely Mummy said...

The market is clean. Here OMG!!! I don't like to go wet market.

laundryamah said...

wow very big market..would love to visit it one day..but will they slaughter the chicken for u upon request??

jazzmint said...

yoh those chickens...i think i'll scream when i first see that. what if halfway u buy home they terlepas O.o.

Annie Q said...

Chris_Lim: thanks for dropping by! I think maybe it only practise in Sibu sell live chicken like that?

Lemonjude: Yes, it's huge and clean, that is why it call Central of the market, you can get anything here. Like i reply Chris, maybe is only Sibu town practise that, i mean selling live chicken in that way. :)

mommy to chumsy: maybe this is the reason, more cleaner than put it in the cage? Hmmm..not sure they still slaughter chicken at this market or not. Last time when it is still old market, they do slaughter chicken.

Lovely mummy:hahahhahahha...sometime wet market can be interesting too. Can see a lot things. :)

Laundryamah: not too sure whether this market they do slaughter chicken or not lei. Last time yes, after you choose the live chicken you can ask them to slaughter for you or you bring it home and slaughter yourself. I don't think you dare hor. HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA

jazzmint: LOL!!! Jazz you're so funny!!! The chicken won't terlepas la. If chicken terlepas, i think not you run after the chicken, is the chicken run after you. hahahhahahahhahah
